  • Potato salad, 1 Cup [358 cal]

OK, so I've been awfully lazy of late. Too busy enjoying my life whilst wondering why my weight loss seems to have slowed down to a nigh non-existent crawl. Seems this is plateau number 2 (with the first being a month or two back). I suppose it's not been too surprising; looking back at my weekly log, one can clearly see a big difference in my calorie intake a few months ago and this month.

Moreover, I've been missing a lot of breakfast lately because I sleep late and wake up late as well. I need to get my body clock back on track.

I'm still under my weekly budget, but nowhere near where I was before during my best weeks. Gotta start getting back my discipline if I wanna see faster weight loss.

In any case, here's a quick breakdown of the past week or so. A quick note on labels: Starting with this post, I've decided to lessen the footer clutter by only adding new labels to a post if there are new foods I mention.

  • Milk, Devondale, Point One, 1 Cup [104 cal]
  • Total - 319 calories

Yep, you read it. I'm getting lazy already haha. It does get a little tedious inputting food everyday. I told myself I'd put up a week's worth of posts to see how it works out.

So far, I wonder if there's much point to keeping this blog up?

My new computer's been keeping me up, so I had a late night. Woke up at 11am today, so no breakfast. Again.

Went out to lunch with a friend and ordered the restaurant's "Mushroom Chicken" with rice. I'm not too sure what I was expecting; it was basically a chicken and mushroom stew with a soy-based sauce. Not too bad, but I think my mom could do a lot better.
  • Stew, chicken w/ mushroom, 1/2 Cup [149 cal]
  • Rice, white, 2/3 Cup [161 cal]
  • Total - 310 calories

Had tuna salad again. I think tuna salad is a childhood comfort food for me. I remember going swimming with my cousins as a kid, and once we got out of the pool all tired and hungry, my mom and aunt would bring out the bread and tuna and we'd stuff ourselves with sandwiches. Good times.
  • Sandwich, tuna salad, 1 Piece [347 cal]
  • Milk, Devondale, Point One, 1 Cup [104 cal]
  • Total - 451 calories

Headed to Supasave to stock up on deodorant (you do not want to be around me without deodorant on a sunny day). I also bought some dinner in the form of a croissant sandwich. It had corned chicken (as opposed to beef), tomato and cucumber slices, bits of cheese, lettuce, and low fat mayonnaise. It tasted surprisingly good. The croissant was especially tasty. I gotta try it again another time.
  • Croissant, chicken & vege, w/cheese & low fat mayo, 1 Piece [474 cal]
  • Juice, orange, 1 Cup [110 cal]
  • Total - 584 calories

Mom's friend sent over some fruit from New Zealand. I can't remember the last time I tasted persimmon and kiwi...
  • Persimmon, fresh, 1/4 Piece [8 cal]
  • Kiwi, fresh, 1/2 Piece [28 cal]
  • Total - 36 calories

And finally, after weeks, I get to play badminton again. Felt so good to sweat haha. Today was a good day; my net calories consumption came out to only 773 calories! I live for badminton days.
  • Overall calories consumed - 1,382 cal
  • Exercise & calories burned - Badminton (1 hr 30 mins), 609 cal
  • Calories under budget - 1,201 (out of 1,973) cal

Uneventful day, and for some reason, not very hungry at all this morning. I guess it's because I don't wake up early enough to be hungry by 9am.
  • Jacob's Weetameal, 5 Pieces, [86 cal]
  • Juice, orange (unsweetened), 1 Cup [134 cal]
  • Total - 220 calories

Was busy playing with the nephew, so I sorta picked at my food when it came to lunch haha. Nice beef today. Not too sure what vegetable I had today. Forgot to ask. I'll just say bok choy until someone corrects me.
  • Rice, white, 1 Cup [121 cal]
  • Bok choy, stir-fried, 2/3 Cup [13 cal]
  • Beef, ground, soy sauce, 3 Ounces [230 cal]
  • Total - 287 calories

Visited one of my lecturers in campus today. One of the great things about her is that she's always offering tidbits when we barge in on her. Chocolates, candy, snacks, etc. Today she had those Lexus Cracker things.
  • Lexus Crackers, cheese filling, 2 Pieces [105 cal]
  • Chocolate, dark [135 cal]
  • Total - 240 calories

Mom tried her hand at making a dry curry. I used to dislike curry, but recently gained an inexplicable liking for it.
  • Rice, white, 1/2 Cup [121 cal]
  • Curry, chicken, 1/2 Cup [218 cal]
  • Broccoli, boiled, 1/2 Cup [27 cal]
  • Total - 366 calories

Went out for supper with a few friends. Amidst the talk of Twitter and Thai girls, I managed to scarf down some mee mamak, which is a spicy eggy noodle dish. Also drank a glass of "horlo" which is a combination of horlicks and milo.
  • Mee mamak, 1 Serving [400 cal]
  • Horlo, 1 Cup [122 cal]
  • Total - 522 calories

Snacks will be the death of me.

Skipped breakfast today. Was too busy jamming away at Guitar Hero: Metallica.

Bad monkey!

Spaghetti day! Oddly enough, although I used to love spaghetti, my tastes have slowly moved away from it to other kinds of pasta, such as lasagna. And I still love pizza.
  • Spaghetti, beef sauce, 1 Cup [260 cal]
  • Total - 260 calories

Dinner was pretty simple; had leftover spaghetti sauce with some fried mee hoon (rice vermicelli). I don't really like mee hoon but I thought it'd be OK for a change.
  • Mee hoon, 1 Cup [272 cal]
  • Sauce, spaghetti, 1/2 Cup [60 cal]
  • Total - 332 calories

Everyone says that late night snacks are bad for you, but I've read an article here and there which claims that there is no scientific proof that eating late at night contributes to weight gain. Sounds like justification to me. But a couple biscuits can't hurt, right?
  • Jacob's Weetameal, 5 Pieces [86 cal]
  • Milk, Devondale, Point One, 1/2 Cup [52 cal]
  • Total -  138 calories

For some reason, I managed to not eat very much today. I suppose it has to do with the arrival of my new Dell PC today. Too busy cleaning up my room and setting up the machine to bother with food. ^_^
  • Overall calories consumed - 730 cal
  • Calories under budget - 1,243 (out of 1,973) cal

Sorry, Internet again. Though now that I'm on my new PC, the Internet's been oddly better.

I love Weetameal. Tasty and good for you. Dad hadn't bought any for a while so I'm catching up haha.
  • Jacob's Weetameal, 5 Pieces [86 cal]
  • Devondale Point One [104 cal]
  • Total - 190 calories

Homemade meatballs are gorgeous. Had them with Ikea's Swedish Meatball sauce. Yum. Oh, and beans are oddly higher in calories than I anticipated...
  • Meatballs, beef, 4 Pieces [ 222 cal]
  • Potatoes, sliced, 4 Pieces [108 cal]
  • Spinach, stir-fried, 1/2 Cup [20 cal]
  • Beans, french, 1/2 cup [114 cal]
  • Total - 464 calories

Aunt sent over some homemade kelupis today. They're basically glutinous rice with shrimp wrapped in a large leaf and steamed or barbecued (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). I've always loved the things, but I can't say they're too good for me. Couldn't resist having two though.
  • Kelupis, 2 Pieces [270 cal]
  • Total - 270 calories

Pretty filling dinner, though with nothing too unhealthy. That is, if you don't count the sambal prawns.
  • Rice, white, 1/2 cup [121 cal]
  • Prawns, sambal, 1/2 Cup [149 cal]
  • Lettuce, stir-fried, 1 Cup [10 cal]
  • Cauliflower, boiled, 1 Cup [29 cal]
  • Soup, cream of corn, 1 Cup [90 cal]
  • Total - 398 calories

Went to Charmy, that "Snow Ice" place. Was my first time, and I must say, it's pretty good. They proudly boast that "no matter how much you eat Snow Ice, you'll never gain a single pound." Hmm, I'd rather not test that. I had a "Nutty", which has toppings of peanuts and peanut butter. I also had this very good toast dish called "Lasagna Toast", which was quite good. Thick piece of bread stuffed with lasagna sauce and topped with melted cheese. Might have that again next time.
  • Sundae, "Nutty", 1 Serving [200 cal]
  • Dish, "Lasagna Toast", 1 Serving [392 cal]
  • Total - 862 calories

Gosh, two snacks in one day. I need badminton soon. It's all I can do to keep under my DCB. I love food too much!
  • Overall calories consumed - 1,913 cal
  • Exercise & calories burned - DDR (45 mins), 354 cal
  • Calories under budget - 414 (out of 1,973) cal

What follows is a conversation between my mom and me with literal (sorta) translations from Hakka. Pardon the lousy romanization. It sounds a lot funnier in Chinese.

Mom: Ngi oi yim barley mau? [You want drink barley or not?]
Me: Moi. [Don't want.]
Mom: Oi! [Want!]

Talk about a Jedi mind trick.

I was also playing "Nothing Else Matters" on Guitar Hero: Metallica, and she commented about how she likes that song because my brother used to listen to it continually.

Ah, one of my childhood breakfasts today. Scrambled eggs (with ketchup) on wholemeal bread. Well, it wasn't always wholemeal, but my family switched to it years ago.
  • Bread, wholemeal, 1 slice [66 cal]
  • Eggs, scrambled, 6 Tablespoons [137 cal]
  • Ketchup, 1 Tablespoon [15 cal]
  • Total - 218 calories

Pizza day! Man, pizza is SO not good for you. Each slice is loaded with calories. The only problem is-- I love pizza.
  • Pizza, pepperoni, 1 Slice [298 cal]
  • Pizza, meat & vegetable, 1 Slice [332 cal]
  • Total - 630 calories

Whoever decided to put together chocolate and peanut butter in the heavenly combination of Reese's is a freakin' genius. Oh, and here's another Jacob's variety that's pretty good: Weetameal.
  • Chocolate, Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, 1 Piece [109 cal]
  • Jacob's Weetameal Crackers, 7 Pieces [120 cal]
  • Milk, Devondale, Point One, 1/2 Cup [52 cal]
  • Total - 281 calories

Tonight was another big affair. Great uncle from L.A. visited, so we ate out and had a lot of rich restaurant food. I tasted from every dish, so it was quite a challenge keeping the calorie level down. Even those damn appetizer peanuts were tempting.
  • Peanuts, salted, 20 Pieces [117 cal]
  • Rice, white, 1 Cup [242 cal]
  • Beef, stir-fried, 1 1/2 Ounces [120 cal]
  • Asparagus, spears, 5 Pieces [16 cal]
  • Kai-lan, 1/2 Cup [10 cal]
  • Spinach, stir-fried, 1/2 Cup [20 cal]
  • Prawns, buttermilk, 4 Pieces [260 cal]
  • Tofu, Japanese, 3 Pieces [91 cal]
  • Fish, sea bass, 2 Ounces [70 cal]
  • Papaya, fresh, 2 Ounces [15 cal]
  • Tea, black, 1 Cup [0 cal]
  • Total - 961 calories

Even cutting down and merely taking a tiny portion from each dish, it added up to quite a lot. Really cut it close today. I can't wait for badminton to start up again. I'll have to settle for some DDR here and there to stave off the fat.
  • Overall calories consumed - 2,091 cal
  • Exercise & calories burned - DDR (30 mins), 236 cal
  • Calories under budget - 118 (out of 1,973) cal

I tend to wake up pretty early for church. So it was about 7:45am this morning when I had breakfast. Had tuna salad, which is a simple blend of canned tuna and mayo, with salt and pepper to taste. I dunno how my mom does it; it always tastes better than when I make it. Was sorta in a hurry, so didn't scarf down that much; only had half a sandwich, i.e. tuna salad smeared on one slice of bread then folded in half.
  • Sandwich, tuna salad, 1/2 Piece [174 cal]
  • Juice, orange, 1 Cup [134 cal]
  • Total - 308 calories

Went to Golden Leaf in Batu Bersurat for lunch. Love that place. Great Chinese food (though not exactly Muslim-friendly). Didn't have any pork this time though. Their fish curry is pretty flavoursome and I ended up eating more rice than I expected.
  • Curry, fish, 1 Serving [256 cal]
  • Rice, white, 1 Cup [242 cal]
  • Tea, herbal, 1 Cup [100 cal]
  • Total - 598 calories

After I heard my brother's success with eating smaller meals more often to lose weight, I followed suit, and I can honestly say it's working pretty well so far. The drawback is that every couple hours I get hungry, so at about 5:30pm I had some cereal.
  • Cereal, Sanitarium, Triple Berry, 1 Cup [215 cal]
  • Milk, Devondale, Point One, 1 Cup [104 cal]
  • Total - 319 calories

Is it just me, or do the past few days seem to be full of tasty dinners? Tonight was a bacon-n-egg sandwich, with a few sticks of Veat thrown in. For the uninitiated, Veat is a brand of vegetarian soy-based meat substitutes. Doesn't sound very appetizing, but throw in varieties of "Veaty Bites" like "Pandan Chicken" and "Chicken Satay", and it starts sounding a little better. And add to that the fact that each serving is not all that high in calories, and you've got a winning product. Unfortunately, there is news of its discontinuation.

Anyway, just to make it easier, I'll list the ingredients for the sandwich instead of lumping it all together under one point.
  • Bacon, pan fried, medium-sized, 2 Pieces [87 cal]
  • Egg, 1 Piece [90 cal]
  • Bread, wholemeal, 2 Slices [ 133 cal]
  • Ketchup, 2 Tablespoons [29 cal]
  • Veat, Veaty Bites, Chicken Satay, 2 Sticks [110 cal]
  • Total - 449 calories

This week hasn't been all that great in terms of cutting down on the cals. Granted, I'm still under my overall daily budget, and lower than my weekly budget, so it's not a total loss.
  • Overall calories consumed - 1,674 cal
  • Calories under budget - 300 (out of 1,973) cal

Pardon the late post that was supposed to be up yesterday. Internet was on the fritz. Even now it's a little wonky, so excuse the dust.

For clarity's sake, 1 cup is equivalent to approximately 60g. Usually, 1/2 a cup comes to about 4 to 5 tablespoons or so, so that's a pretty reliable measurement. But it doesn't sound like much, does it?

I've also decided to add labels (as well as few extra details here and there) to each post. Every label will be a general food one, just to make it easier to navigate if you're looking for a particular food item and/or its calorie content.

For breakfast I tried a new cereal from Sanitarium's Light 'n' Tasty range. Tastes pretty good, for a "healthy" cereal. Ever since my family decided to make the switch to low-fat milk, my dad has been buying Devondale Point One, which is what I usually have with cereal.
  • Cereal, Sanitarium, Triple Berry, 1 Cup [215 cal]
  • Milk, Devondale, Point One, 1 Cup [104 cal]
  • Total - 319 calories

Ooh, mom cooked 2 types of vegetables today! Two of my favourites: spinach and baby kai-lan (also known as chinese broccoli or chinese kale). The best thing about veges is that you can stuff your face with most of them and not worry very much about calories. Case in point-- 1 cup of kai-lan is about 19 calories!

Mom also made a very nice chicken stew of sorts, with peanuts and potatoes. Didn't have too much of that, since peanuts are chock full of calories, though it is quite a good idea to have a handful of nuts once in a while. The food kind, I mean.
  • Kai-lan, 1 Cup [19 cal]
  • Spinach, 1 Cup [40 cal]
  • Stew, chicken, 1/2 cup [149 cal]
  • Total - 208 calories

Dinner was at Jollibee. Another night of caloric splurging. The two biggest guilty pleasures tonight were the Crispy Chicken Burger (with garlic mayo) and the "Creamy Kaya" which used to be called "Halo-Halo". I wonder why they changed its name...
  • Burger, chicken, 1 Serving [583 cal]
  • Coca-Cola, 1 Cup [103]
  • French fries, salted, 25 Pieces [168 cal]
  • Sundae, Creamy Kaya, 1 Serving [304 cal]
  • Total - 1,157 calories

Dinner's total calories shocked me. I'd almost forgotten how insanely fattening fast food can be. On the bright side, I only netted a paltry 208 calories for lunch, so my total was still slightly below budget.
  • Overall calories consumed - 1,684 cal
  • Calories under budget - 748 (out of 1,973) cal
